Eva Cheek Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the CMU Health & Sciences department in memory of Eva Cheek. Eva moved to Grand Junction at a young age. She was an elementary school teacher until she married Franklin Cheek. She helped him operate a large peach orchard on the Redlands. She continued to operate the orchard on her own after Franklin died in 1959. When she got older, she decided to sell the orchard and move into an apartment near Mesa College. She made friends with her neighbor who was also the Dean of Nursing at Mesa. This woman was very kind to Eva and helped her lived independently well into old age. Eva was very grateful for this and established the nursing scholarships, in her will, as a way of saying “thanks.” This scholarship will provide financial assistance to nursing students.
