Back the Badge Scholarship
Back the Badge is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to supporting law enforcement. Its mission is to provide resources that enhance the safety, training, and welfare of law enforcement personnel, as well as financial assistance to the families of officers who are injured or have fallen in the line of duty.
The organization envisions a highly trained, well-supported law enforcement presence in Mesa County. Back the Badge ensures that families of fallen or injured officers, such as Deputy Geer, receive the support they need, while also addressing critical needs for equipment and training that are not covered by federal or state budgets.
Nationally, the foundation contributes to programs such as C.O.P.S. Kids, Shop with a Cop, and the Colorado National Fallen Heroes Association. Fund allocation is guided by a cross-functional group that includes senior law enforcement advisors, with grants awarded quarterly.
Additionally, Back the Badge partners with the Grand Junction Police Department and Colorado Mesa University to implement the R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) program. This program enhances student safety through awareness, prevention training, and self-defense techniques, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to both community and officer well-being.
