Arbaney Family Endowed Scholarship
“The initial funding of this scholarship endowment was from Richard Arbaney. Mr. Arbaney provided the following information regarding his establishment of the Endowment.
I, Richard Arbaney, was born on March 9, 1938, making me 81 years old. My parents Alex and Thelma Arbaney were farmers in the Roaring Fork Valley, just out of Basalt. I have one sister, Patsy, who resides in Grand Junction, Colorado. I graduated from Basalt High School in 1956, In enrolled in Colorado A&M in Fort Collins, Colorado in the fall of 1956. In May of 1957, Colorado A&M was converted to Colorado State University. I graduated in 1960. I became employed by Continental Airlines in May of 1961. I was “Drafted” into the U.S. Army. My basic training took place in Fort Carson, CO located in Colorado Springs, CO. I ended up in a finance outfit in Frankfort, Germany. There I met and married my wife, Judy, a WAC, from Detroit Ml. (she out-ranked me). A fun moment with Judy- we were in a movie house to see “Beverly Hills Cop” with Eddie Murphy. Murphy was wearing “Munford High” t-shirt. Judy stood up in that full theatre and proclaimed “Munford class of ’57.” Because Murphy had his t-shirt, Munford sold to Alums enough t-shirts to pay for a complete computer system for the school. After the Army, Judy and I returned to Denver. I was reinstated with Continental. I ended 40
years of airline service in Houston. Neither of us wanted to live in a large city, We chose Grand Junction, Colorado to live out our retirement. In 2012, sixty years of smoking caught up with Judy and she passed. We never had any children. It makes me feel good and gives me great pleasure knowing what this money is doing. I will consider all the recipients children of Judy and me."
